About.
The man behind the kit.
Phil Carter is a professional drummer and drum tutor with over 30 years of experience in playing, recording, and teaching.
It was listening to his father's vinyl collection as a troubled teenager that lit the creative fuse, soaking up Zeppelin's musicality, James Brown's pulse, Hendrix's fire, and Mahavishnu's creativity, amongst other listening adventures. After a break during his time in the armed forces, Phil trained formally at Drumtech in South London.
Music became more than an escape — it became a direction.

"It doesn't matter how many beats you play, it's where you play them, and a lot of it is what you don't play."
— Ginger Baker
Since then, Phil has played across original projects, function bands, and tribute acts, performing throughout the UK and overseas. Years on stage and in the studio taught him what being a musician is all about: creating, performing and sharing music.
Phil's teaching career began at Birmingham Drum School, where he worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities. Sadly, the school closed during COVID.
He now teaches independently from his purpose-built home studio using state-of-the-art gear — a relaxed space where his students can develop confidence, groove, and musical awareness at their own pace.
The focus is on learning and fun, while enjoying a friendly, no-pressure environment that keeps students coming back for more.
