  About.

 The man behind the kit.

Phil Carter is a professional drummer and drum tutor with over 30 years of experience in playing, recording, and teaching.

His personal and musical journey started the messy, troubled-teen kinda way — banging rhythms into anything that made a noise, trying to make sense of a world that didn't yet fit.

Phil's Dad's 60s and 70s records lit the spark: Bonham's weight, Motown's pulse, Hendrix's fire. Music became more than an escape — it became a direction.

By eighteen, Phil was gigging around Birmingham in garage bands, learning feel, instinct, and how to keep a room moving.

After a break during his time in the armed forces, Phil trained formally at Drumtech in South London, building technique and discipline to match the raw energy he'd grown up with.

Since then, Phil has played across original projects, function bands, and tribute acts, performing throughout the UK and overseas. Those years on stage and in the studio taught him what being a musician is all about: preparation, consistency, and serving the song above everything else.

Phil's teaching career began at Birmingham Drum School, where he worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities. â€‹

He now teaches independently from his purpose-built home studio — a relaxed but focused space where his students can develop confidence, groove, and musical awareness at their own pace.

Alongside teaching, Phil currently tours with the Jimi Hendrix tribute Are You Experienced, keeping alive the spirit of the music that gave him his musical, personal and professional identity.
